In order to accomplish its main objective, that is, to achieve the highest possible level of security for children on the use of the new Information and Communication Technologies; PROTEGELES has to overcome many obstacles. The most remarkable ones are:
- Insufficient social awareness of the problem
- Internet’s self nature: a very high level of anonymity, and a number of users that keeps on growing exponentially
- Ever changing and evolving technology
- Differences in legislation on the international arena
- Lack of experience due to the newness of the problems
- The need of coordination between many different social agents
- Existence of a technology gap between children and parents that hinders action and knowledge spreading (most children know more than their parents about these problems)
- Economic resources limitations, and so on
In order to face this circumstances on a successful way, PROTEGELES needs to coordinate as much social agents as possible, mainly, public institutions, law enforcement agencies, Internet related industry, education agents (parents, educators and students), Child Welfare Non-Governmental Organizations and the media.
PROTEGELES is working with all institutions mentioned above and promotes an interactive way of working, as it is explained here after.
Relación with the European Union
PROTEGELES Association is supported by the European Commission within the framework of Information Society and Safer Internet Plan (SIP), more specifically; the EU supports our hotline for reporting illegal and harmful contents on Internet and our raising-awareness campaigns. These campaigns are addressed to parents, teachers and children and are intended to inform on the potential benefits of Internet as well as its risks.
PROTEGELES takes part in all activities promoted by the European Commission which aim at spreading a safer use of Internet.
PROTEGELES actions were regarded as “successful project” on the 1999-2002 “Report on the Safer Internet Plan Evaluation”
